NFL Preview/ Week 1 Picks

It's amazing how things can change so much in 1 NFL offseason. Players in new uniforms, new coaches, coaches in  the hot seat, and everyone wondering who the new fantasy breakout star will be. Everyone has an opinion on how their team will do, but sometime perception is not reality. Some teams are really bad and some got even better than they were a year ago.WIth all that being said I will give you a quick break down of each team and predictions for the year as well as predictions of each weeks' games. Lets get started.

Let's start with teams that need to win now! These teams have talent and have good team put together, but haven't been able to win consistently. Now is the time for these teams to take that next step or it may be time to take a new direction. So Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Texans, it's time to take that next step. Too good not to, but haven't done it yet. Now's the time to show what you're made of.

Next are teams that are in such dissaray that they don't know which way is up. These teams need HUGE shake ups and fast! These teams could very well be looking for new coaches by the end of the year. Oakland Raiders, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions

Best Division in the NFL? Many strong divisions, especially in the NFC. The strongest division to me is the NFC West, with the NFC North being a close second. In the west the 49ers and the Seahawks are getting all the run and rightfully so, but don't sleep on the Ram and the Cardinals. Both team have decent offenses and new coaches in place. The Rams have a great defensive line, and will put lots of pressure on teams. The team in the NFC West will not be push overs.

Fantasy Star: The big breakout fantasy star is Colin Kaepernick. He had a great season once he began starting for the San Francisco 49ers. I expect him to put up HUGE numbers in Fantasy Football this year.

NFL MVP: Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos. Manning had a great year in his first year in Denver last year. With a year with these new receivers under his belt and the addition of Wes Welker in the slot, I expect HUGE numbers from Peyton Manning.

Division Prediction:
AFC East

1) New England Patriots: You can't bet against Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. They have a great offensive line, and a solid defense. The biggest question here is whether the new receiving corp will be able to replace Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski

2) Miami Dolphins: Good line on both sides of the ball. I'm eager to see how much QB Ryan Tannehill  improves in his 2nd season. This team is definitely on the rise.

3) Buffalo Bills: Rookie QB EJ Manuel will be tested early. They have one of the best running back tandems in the NFL with Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller. Linebackers are with biggest weakness of this team. Receivers are not very good.

4) New York Jets: One of the worst teams in the NFL! Biggest question here is who's worse for the organization, Mark Sanchez or Rex Ryan.

AFC North

1) Baltimore Ravens: Reigning Super Bowl Champs have a lot of new faces. They'll miss Anquan Boldin, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. They should be younger and faster but how much will the veteran leadership be missed? Still a very tough team.

2) Pittsburgh Steelers: Huge holes on the offensive and defensive lines. Running back is up for grabs. Solid in the back 7 defensively. Will they be able to keep Big Ben healthy?

3) Cinncinati Bengals: Could be a sleeper in the division IF a running game emerges. Andy Dalton is solid at QB. Defense is very very good.

4) Cleveland Browns: Made strides last year with Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden. Need receivers t step up and to develop a defensive identity,

AFC South

1) Houston Texans: Texans are one of the most complete teams in the NFL. They need to take it to the next step in the Playoffs. If they don't reach the AFC Championship Game the season is a bust.

2) Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck was great in his rookie year! Biggest questions are will they develop a running game, sound familiar?, and will the defense be able to stop teams when it matters most?

3) Tennessee Titans: How much will Jake Locker improve from last year, and will Running Back Chris Johnson ever return to the form he had when he rushed for 2000 yds a few years ago.

4) Jacksonville Jaguars: They have holes everywhere! Running Back Maurice Jones - Drew is the teams' best player by far and missed most of last season with injuries.

AFC West:

1) Denver Broncos: Peyton Manning and Co have everything they need to make a run at the Super Bowl in February.

2) Kansas City Chiefs: New Coach, New Starting QB, sub par receivers will make this offense tough to watch. Defense will keep them in games.

3) San Diego Chargers: Look for the Chargers to compete for a top pick in the Draft in April. Offense is decent at best but the line is horrible. Defense is not much better.

4) Oakland Raiders: Still looking for a starting QB, their best player, Darren McFadden, hasn't had a season without an injury since high school. Lots of holes, but they have the right people in place in the front office. I expect to see lots of positive changes coming the next few years for the Raiders.

NFC East:

1) Dallas Cowboys: If they give QB Tony Romo a little bit of time, he's a top 10 QB. However with a questionable line that's a big IF. Should be good enough to win the division.

2) New York Giants: Questions on both sides of the ball. Which Eli Manning will show up this year? Too talented to not make a playoff push, but can they get out of their own way?

3) Washington Redskins: What improvements will RG III make? Was RB Alfred Morris a one season wonder? Will someone on the receiving corp become the go to guy?

4) Philadelphia Eagles: New Coach, QB controversy, and a bad defense. It's going to be a tough year for the Eagles.

NFC North

1) Green Bay Packers: Still no clear Running Back to help the offense. Will the Defense force enough turnovers and be able to stop the run? These MUST happen if the Pack want another deep playoff run in January.

2) Minnesota Vikings: Adrain Petersen wants to go for 2500 yds rushing. If that becomes the focus, this team will self destruct. Addition of WR Greg Jennings will help QB Christian Ponder develop even further.

3) Chicago Bears: Have talent on both sides of the ball, but a sub par Offensive line and Secondary will make things difficult for the Bears late in games.

4) Detroit Lions: One of the best Offenses in the NFL. The defense is very soft once you get past Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairly up front.

NFC South

1) Atlanta Falcons: Solid offensively and defensively. Must make the big plays when it matters to avoid another playoff let down.

2) New Orleans Saints: With the return of Head Coach Sean Payton this offense will return to dominance. Will they be able to stop anyone is the big question.

3) Carolina Panthers: Offense will be fun to watch with QB Cam Newton getting better. Good Running Back tandem. Missing leadership on Defense to take the next step.

4) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB Josh Freeman took a  big step back last year, defense is soft. Team need to find an identity to compete week in and week out.

NFC West

1) San Francisco 49ers: The evolution of QB Colin Kaepernick is the biggest question on whether the 49ers hold the Lombardi trophy in February.

2) Seattle Seahawks: Classic throwback team. They can run, pass, and punch you in the mouth on defense. If they stay disciplined they will contend deep in the NFC Playoffs.

3) St. Louis Rams: Better than people think. Tough defensive front. Need to find a replacement for RB Steven Jacksons' leadership.

4) Arizona Cardinals: WR Larry Fitzgerald is the best player on this offense. Another new QB will take control of the offense. Still no running game and a soft secondary will be the teams' achilles heel.

Top 5 Rankings:
1) San Francisco 49ers
2) Denver Broncos
3) Atlanta Falcons
4) Seattle Seahawks
5) Green Bay Packers

Bottom 5
32) New York Jets
31) Jacksonville Jaguars
30) Oakland Raiders
29) Philadelphia Eagles
28) Arizona Cardinals

Steroids in MLB - Who's really to blame?

As the MLB season is coming down to an exciting end, this may be remembered as the year MLB has had ENOUGH of the cheaters and liars taking Performance Enhancing Drugs. MLB seems to be on that path. The players have had enough. The fans have had enough! They're tired of wondering if they're watching greatness or if these players are achieving these great stats with the help of PEDs.

However the question remains, whose to blame? Is it the players that have been taking PEDs to gain fame and fortune? Well yes, but are they solely to blame? Do fans blame the owners who turned away while players like Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and many others were taking them? Yes they share some of the blame also. There is a group however that is taking very little to no blame for allowing this to happen while they were active and are pointing their fingers in a, shame shame shame, kind of way. Those are the former players turned broadcasters that had the chance to put an end to this type of behavior back in the 90's and early 2000's and did NOTHING! During the negotiations of Collective Bargaining Agreements players were completely AGAINST testing. They fought against it! Now not all or even half may have been using, but they were ALL reaping the benefits of the "steroid era" with McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds all leading the way. In fact there's an analyst for a big network that said on live tv that during their players meetings 1 pitcher stood up and said they needed to put a stop to PEDs in baseball. They turned and told him to sit down and be quiet! In the book, "The Yankee Years" by Joe Torre there's a quote by a player, the name escapes me right now, and he said, paraphrasing, that he retired early because he didn't want to have to use PEDs just to stay in Baseball and compete! To me this is very telling. Players will always look for an advantage but taking PEDs is not the way

PEDs in Baseball have absolutely destroyed the game. Records like Barry Bonds' Home Run records, Roger Clemens' pitching records, Sammy Sosas' 600 plus home runs, Alex Rodriguezs' 650 home runs and MVPs will forever be questioned. These men not only cheated the game, their organizations, and the fans but also themselves. They will NEVER get into the Hall Of Fame, never be recognized as true great because of their use of PEDs. What's really sad to me is that this could've been stopped 12 - 15 years ago if they players shaking their fingers at today's player had stood up and stopped it!

Until next time

Stand Up For WWE

I'm Back and I'm glad and frustrated! The WWE has launched a campaign called "Stand Up For WWE", I'm extremely glad that it's happened and feel it's long overdue! The WWE has been criticized continuously for years because of many different things that have been negative for YEARS! Many media outlets continuously have called out the WWE for their programming, storylines, drug abuse by performers, etc! However NONE of these outlets mentions how much GOOD the WWE has done! It's about time these actions also get mentioned! The WWE does a LOT of charity work through the Make A Wish Foundation providing children with wishes! They also have programs such as The Wrestlemania Reading Challenge, Smackdown Your Vote, and many others to help show it's viewers the importance of such things! The WWE comes into your homes each week with different storylines via a TV for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES! Some of the performers are parents and regulate how much of their shows their own children watch! WWE programming has a TV PG rating and is as family friendly as many of the TV shows on today! You can look at shows like Jersey Shore, The Real World, and many Soap Operas that show more drinking, sex, and violence than WWE programming and it's on tv in THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! WWE programming doesn't come on TV until 8 or 9 pm, when most children are getting ready FOR BED! Many movies are also more violent than WWE programming! Is there a dark side to wrestling? Yes! I've heard the stories as have many wrestling fans, but are they ANY different in other professions? Do we here of drug abuse in Hollywood? YES! Do we hear of fights or racial slurs coming from other "Celebrities"? YES! Yet these people are constantly given chance after chance but WWE superstars and the WWE are constantly looked down upon because many feel the programming to be too violent. I have one bit of advice for those people..... DON'T WATCH IT! The WWE and it's superstars do some much good and bring tons of entertainment to people of all ages it's time that the good they do comes to the forefront! The WWE Superstars bring smile to thousands of people in different arenas, take pictures and give as much as they can in the ring every night! They put their bodies on the line just to bring a smile to a child"s face! They deserve RESPECT! You may not enjoy their products but these men and women ARE ATHLETES! Make NO mistake. If you think it's easy to be on the road 300 days a year and do what they do then I CHALLENGE YOU to get in the ring and do it! Find out how "fake" WWE REALLY IS! I guarantee you'll have a better appreciation for what the Superstars go through on a daily basis! The funniest part of the negative things said in the press the last few weeks is that in 2008 John McCain, Hilary Clinton and President Barrack Obama ALL appeared on an episode of Monday Night Raw to promote their candidacy for president. Do you remember that? Go to a WWE show and see how many NFL players, MLB players, NBA players, Actors and Actresses are in attendance. How many have appeared as guest host on Raw in the last year? It's time the positive side of the WWE gets some time in the spotlight!

Until Next Time!

Back again!

Hey all I'm back. This time I have a lot on my mind.

1st is the NFL and what a season it has been to this point. So many surprises not the least of which is that the Broncos are 5-0 and the Bengals are 4-1. I don't know of ANYONE that saw this happening. The Broncos have posted wins over the Patriots and the Cowboys already and have a 2 game lead over San Diego in the division. WOW! The Bengals have been playing great defense, as have the Broncos, and their only loss was an opening day loss to the Broncos on the final minute! they could be 5-0. On the flip side I don't which team is worse the Rams or the Raiders? The Rams have been shut out twice already and have scored a whopping 34 points in 5 games. That's less than 7 points per game! That's BAD! The Raiders haven't been much better. Yes they've won a game but it's hard to see how! They've scored 29 points over their last 4 games and have been absolutely DREADFUL on offense. JaMarcus Russell has been HORRIBLE! The Raiders have a lot of problems everywhere on their team and better straighten them out if they hope to turn the franchise around in the next few seasons.

In MLB the LCS' have begun and the Dodgers vs. Phillies is shaping up to be a great series so far. Both team have a lot of heart and a never give up attitude that is so important this time of year. I can't wait to see how this one ends up. The Angels vs. the Yankees has all the makings of another great series in their great rivalry! Who will win, I don't know but it'll be fun to watch!

In College football the Trojans look like they've righted their ship after their slip up against Washington. Notre Dame and the rest of the Pac -10 petter watch out! As for the UCLA Bruins it looks like they're still trying to find out who they are. Kevin Prince looked horrible against Oergon. The Bruins looked out of it at the begining of the 2nd half, otherwise played a good game against Oregon. The defense played really well. They need to move the ball a little more consistantly.

The NBA is right around the corner. I'm looking for a return trip to the Finals from the Lakers and a postseason appearance by the Clippers this year!

In Wrestling TNA's Bound for Glory is this weekend and I can't wait. This PPV always brings a surprise or 2 and I can't wait to see what happens this year. Great card that could rival any PPV card I've seen. AJ Styles vs Sting, Samoa Joe vs. Bobby Lashley, TBP vs Sarita and Taylor Wilde, Kurt Angle vs. Matt Morgan and more! I'm really excited for this one, PLUS it's here in California!

That's it for now. Be Back soon!!!

Hoping for a Dodger vs. Angels World Series!

Been away too long!!!!

Hello all! Now that my computer is fixed I can resume!

UCLA
1st up how great is it that football is back?! I love college football! The UCLA Bruins have shown a really toughness the 1st two weeks of the season. They had a very grittty performance vs Tennessee this past weekend! The defense was great! I know Tennessee isn't what they used to be, but they're still in the SEC! At least everyone always says how tough the SEC is so a PAC-10 team going to an SEC teams' home and beating them is HUGE! Congrats to UCLA. And how good has Kevin Prince looked the 1st two weeks. Get healthy Kevin and hurry back!

USC
USC looked great defensively last week at Ohio St. They really took away OSU's weapons and held them in check all night! Matt Barkely took his lumos in that game and still engineered a great drive at the end for the win! Joe McKnight finally looked like the player that they said he would be out of high school. If he is turning into the back they said he would then look out. And sorry SC fans but I'm not counting the San Jose St game!

College Football (General)
I really have to give credit to Ohio St though as they are one of the ONLY schools that still schedules big games out of conference! I'm so sick of seeing Florida vs Troy, or Oklahoma vs. Idaho St. Whatever happened to playing in the BIG GAMES!? Playing big games in Conference or in a Bowl Game you don't belong in doesn't count! You HAVE to play your conference so I don't give you a pass just because you play in the SEC or BIG 12. Memo to you: Your conferences aren't THAT GOOD outside of 1 or 2 teams. And don't tell me well rivalry games are always a toss up. In that case Notre Dame should be given a pass as every game they play seems to be some kind of rivalry! Suck it up. grow a pair and start scheduling some tougher out of conference opponents. I don't like the BCS system but they should bring back strength of schedule! Then maybe we'd get to see some good games instead of waiting til the "rivalry game" or the Bowl game to see one.

NFL
I was really impressed with what I saw from the Raiders and Bills in week 1. They both looked very strong in defeat. Mark Sanchez had a good 1st game with the Jets. He played better than he did in the preseason, but it's only 1 game. He will have his struggles as did Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Tony Romo. Sanchez has a great career ahead of him. My winners this week were The Saints - Great offensive game against Detroit, The Cowboys - Looked good vs Tampa Bay, and Philidelphia - awesome vs Panthers. Losers this week - Jake Delhomme, Jay Cutler, The Arizona Cardinals! Play of the week - The tipped pass at the end of the Broncos vs Bengals game. 2 bad teams with a miracle ending for the Broncos. What a week in the NFL!

MLB
With the season winding down the Dodgers are playing better this last week or so. Starting to make a strong push toward the playoffs. I loved the additions of Thome, Garland, and Padilla. The Dodgers could be dangerous in the playoffs. The road to the World Series in the NL still goes through St Louis! They have it all! In the AL the Yankees are the class of the league. However the Red Sox are getting hot, and if the Angels can get by Boston they seem to own the Yankees! It should be a great finish!

Hockey and NBA are both starting up soon! Can't wait for that! Can you imagine a lineup of Kobe, Artest, Odom, Gasol, and Bynum on the floor at the same time? Who can match that? Should be fun to watch!

In Wrestling I love the World Elite storyline in TNA. I think they're more exciting than the Main Event Mafia! Good young group of guys there. I've always liked AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels but I reall am starting to like Hernandez as a singles wrestler. I was skeptic at first but he has proven me wrong! He is going to be a HUGE STAR before all is said and done in his career! In WWE I really enjoyed seeing Trish Stratus come back for one night. She really gave the show a boost and the Divas a boost. I love the DX vs. Legacy angle and the fact that Legacy is going over. I never expected that! They're really putting Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase on the map! And can we please get someone new in the title picture? I'm so tired of Randy Orton, John Cena, Triple H all the time! Let's get some new people a shot. How about Christian? Or MVP? Or even Chris Jericho? And enough with the Undertaker always getting screwed out of a title! Come on already. CM Punk has been a good champion and a great heel turn! I'd like to see his fued with Taker last a little longer. Oh and one other thing, enough with these stipulation PPVs! There's already too many PPVs and not they're all going to have a gimmick? I remember when stipulations and titles used to mean something special but now they seem to be nothing more than a prop. Let's go back to using them only when needed and not all the time!

Lastly the I wanted to say that what Kanye West did to Taylor Swift was classless and disrepectful! When will Kanye just shut his mouth. He's a talented musician but comes off as a very classless individual. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan but she won give the girl her moment! It was HER moment Kanye, not yours! My hat goes off to Beyonce for showing what class is! She showed everyone the type of person she is! It makes you wonder if Beyonce can be so classy and respectful during HER moment then why can't we'll be that kind to each other? Also wanted to say RIP Patrick Swayze. You will be missed!

Update heading in August

Hello everyone! Hope you're staying cool in this hot time of the year. On to my thoughts on a few things going on in sports.

In the NBA the big story locally continues to be Lamar Odom. Is it just me or is this story seemingly getting just old. I'm sorry Lamar Odom is a decent player, but he is NOT going to be the difference maker in whether the Lakers win another championship next year or not. He is not an All Star! All we've ever heard about Odom is he has all this potential, but has he ever lived up to it? NO! He has flashes of brilliance but is not consistent enough to get upset over this contract situation. He was reportedly offered a 3 year 27 million dollar deal and said no. He would've been 32 and in the prime of his career when that contract expired and would've been in a great postion to win a few championships with the Lakers. I say if he's going to be this wishy washy over the number of years (he wants 5 Lakers offered 3) then go to Miami where he will crumble under the pressure of having to once again be the number 2 scorer on that team, which is something he had problems with here in LA with KOBE BRYANT! Lamar it's time for you to decide what's more important to you, the championships or the money? I hope he stays in LA but will not be losing any sleep if he goes back to Miami.

In MLB
With the trading deadline coming up this Friday there is a lot of speculation as to what the Dodgers and Angels are going to do. I really don't think the Dodgers should "mortgage the farm" to get Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee. I really don't think they should go after Cliff Lee period. He's a very good pitcher but then the Dodgers would have 3 left handed starters in their starting rotation and that could be a problem vs a team like ST. Louis or the Phillies, although that would help against the Phillies a little with Ryan Howard and Chase Utley.I'd like to see the Dodgers get some middle relief and the Angels do nothing as they are now getting healthy and playing well. Maybe they could use a bat, sound familiar, but I think they're in good shape. All in all I think Cliff Lee WILL get traded but Halladay will stay in Toronto!

In the NFL there are 2 topics that are burning up the air waves:
1) Michael Vick
With Michael Vick being released from prison and partialy reinstated by the NFL the question is should anyone sign him? I say they should if they think he will help their team! I have no problem with Vick being suspended by Roger Goodell (NFL Commisioner). I also don't think PETA should have ANY say as to what Michael Vick should do to satisfy them to leave him alone. What right does PETA have to tell anyone how to live? I have NO problem with ANYONE that wants to fight for animal rights, in fact I think everyone should do what they can to help animals. However I do NOT think that PETA or any other organization has any right to demand Michael Vick do anything to satisfy them except for his potential employer, THE NFL! Michael Vick has severed his debt to society now leave him alone, and if anyone does sign him then let him do what he does on the field. Boo or cheer if you want but let him play!

2) Bret Favre
I am so glad that Bret Favre has decided to stay retired. He should've stayed retired last year I'm just really tired of the drama of is he or isn't he? It's just so played out. He was a GREAT player and a 1st ballot Hall Of Famer, but it's time to go. If he doesn't want to put the time in then stay away. However I wouldn't be surprised if he is back in the NFL by seasons' end.

Lastly Wrestling
Night of Champions was very surprising to me! I did not expect any title changes right before Summerslam let alone 3! Congratulations to all the new Champions! I am also very surprised at how well the guest hosts for RAW have been doing. At first I thought it would be horrible but I am the first to admit I was wrong. It's been done very well! I'm glad to see Taz back on TV in TNA also. I can't wait to see where his storyline takes him. A big Welcome Back to Traci Brooks! I'm glad she's back! I'm also very intrigued to see where this Main Event Mafia vs Bobby Lashley storyline is going. Hernandez, Sting, Lashley, Mick Foley, and Beer Money vs the MEM will be great to see play out!

Take Care everyone!
